We went to AppleFest out at Wachusett Mountain not too long ago.  It was a nice day & Prue is now at the age where going to events like this is fun :)  We saw Lydia of Sweet Lydias (She had a table selling her delicious s’mores at the event)  Lydia was kind enough to give us a pass for the skyride.  They were running the ski lifts up to the top of the mountain.  It was a fun trip up the mountain.  Prue did great & then we spent some time walking around the summit.  The way down the mountain was another story (you’ll see what I mean).  It was nice getting out in the fresh fall air, hopefully we can go back again next year.

Prue loved playing on this swing set, all she wanted to do was climb the side (she even did it a few times without me helping her up, I just spotted her)  After she got up she didn’t want to go down the slide, she just wanted to jump to me.  I kept trying to encourage her to go down the slide, but she had different plans (of course)

Almost to the top! On the way up the sky ride.
A family photo on our ride up, while Prue doesn’t look super happy she had fun going up. Another “family” photo.  I love the way Prue’s Hello Kitty socks look with her shoes.  If you ask her who the cat is, she tells you it’s Phoebe (one of our cat’s)
We made it to the top and Prue was able to run around a bit.  She kept running to Drew & then turning around to run back to me. I asked Prue to stand next to Drew for a photo and this is the pose she did.  I nearly died, and almost didn’t get it because she moved so fast.  The one on the right is her saying “cheese” A few minutes later when it was my turn for a photo with Miss Prue she was already over it, and didn’t want to take her “B” out.  Drew hates photos of her with her “B”, I don’t really mind, if it means she isn’t throwing a fit so I can have her stand next to me, then I am good. Waiting to get back on the ski lift for the ride down. eeek!  A little scarier on the ride down for sure, but amazing views.  Drew was in charge of all photos on the ski lift so I could hold onto Prue tightly. I told you the ride down wasn’t as fun, she started to get fussy.  For a minute I was freaking out, but I just bundled her up in her blanket and we snuggled and she was good the rest of the way down. After the skyride, Prue wanted to go play in the bouncing house.  At first I thought she was too little so we weren’t letting her go on, but she was FREAKING out, and wanted to go so badly.  It wasn’t too crowded so she was able to go inside it.  She had a BLAST.  It was so funny watching her bounce all over the place.  It wasn’t as fun to take her out.  There were kids screaming and crying all around because they were upset that they had to get out to let other kids have a turn.  I begrudgingly shared my fried dough with Prue.
My adult cider and Drew’s beer.  Prue so badly wanted to drink my cider!

It was a great day, we went home with some yummy cider donuts.  Prue only a had a few melt downs, but overall was pretty good.  We even came home with a painted pumpkin.  Though Prue picked out the Dora one, we tried badly to encourage her to pick the black cat.  We kept telling her it was like Jake (my parent’s black cat) but she didn’t cave & kept asking for Dora.

This is a post I’ve been meaning to write for quite some time.  Drew & I met up some friends for dinner in Boston during restaurant week back in August (Ohhh, how I wish it was still AUGUST!)  Katie & Kevin had the great idea of asking Drew & I (and our friends Dee & George) to meet up for dinner.  It was such a great idea & we had a fabulous time at The Wine Cellar on Mass Ave.  Drew and I weren’t sure how long it would take us to get into the city (we also dropped Prue off at my parent’s a little earlier then anticipated) so we wound up in the city with some time to kill.  We ended up walking around the area and stumbled upon Sweet (I’m not going to lie, when I was googling directions on my phone I noticed Sweet on the map and kept my eyes peeled for it).

Those of you who know me, know I LOVE (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE) cupcakes so we had to check Sweet out!

I loved everything about the store, the wallpaper, the pale pink couches, the glass cupcake stands.  We only had our small canon point and shoot with us, but I had to nab some shots.  I ordered a pink lemonade cupcake (TO-DIE-FOR) Drew ordered a green tea cupcake (also really yummy!)

I want to order one of each!  It was really hard to choose.  They have a seasonal menu so now I need to go back and try the Fall flavors! They have a pumpkin & a caramel apple that sound lovely.   Very satisfied customers :)

Then we were off to meet our friends at The Wine Cellar to enjoy some yummy cheese & chocolate fondue (as well as some good wine).  I think starting and ending with dessert is a perfect plan & would like to do it more often :)

Brittany & Luke were married on 10.10.10.  Luke, you never have any excuse about not being able to remember your anniversary :)  We spent the day at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem MA.  Brittany got ready at the Hotel (the ceremony & reception) were also at the Hotel.   I spent some time with the ladies in the morning while Drew hung out with the guys for a bit.  Brittany & Luke met out in Utah, where Luke is from.  Brittany went out to Utah after college for a little adventure & ended up finding the “one”.  Brittany is from Gloucester so a Northshore wedding it was.  It was fun to shoot a wedding in Salem, Drew & I use to live in Salem (SSC alums, though it’s now SSU).  Drew also use to work at the Hawthorne Hotel so we were very familiar with the location!

Enjoy your preview Brittany & Luke, we had a great time hanging out with you & shooting your wedding :)

Drew took the guys outside for a bit before the ceremony.  They did some shots over in the Commons (where we all went after the Ceremony for some more shots)

I love this one of Brittany’s nieces holding hands.  It was a quick moment while we were upstairs getting ready.  I wasn’t sure if I got it and was happy to see I did & that I was in the right spot to capture it too.  The Hawthorne is an older Hotel so the rooms are smaller then what a newer hotel would have.  With everyone getting ready there wasn’t too much space for me to move around.

Drew captured this shot.  There are three windows looking into the Ballroom, the girls we sneaking a peek before the ceremony started.

It was the annual Zombie Walk on that Sunday.  While taking formal shots in the commons we were overcome by Zombies.  I was ready to have to yell at them for ruining my shots, but they walked through the commons without coming over to where we were shooting.  As you can see there were MANY zombies!  We were able to have Brittany & Luke run down and pose with the zombies in the background.  We also got a few shots with a few zombies up close, they asked if they could pose with Brittany & Luke, it was kind of cute in a weird way. I’m going to go out on a limb and say the image on the left is Drew’s favorite (I’ll correct it if I’m wrong) I love Brittany’s expression in this one :) We nabbed a Salem Pedicab for a few shots.  They driver was really great and let us shoot on it & even move the pedicab a bit because it was in the direct sun & was too bright to shoot.   This is my favorite candid moment :) Brittany got a top hat & cane for her Grandfather to wear during the reception, in hopes he would sing with the band.  He didn’t end up singing with the band, but he loved sporting the hat & he was dancing up a storm for quite some time! They had a photobooth that printed 2 strips one to keep & one to put in a guestbook.  We will soon be offering a “photobooth” of sorts, though the setup is a little different.  We are currently offering it at a discounted rate while we try it out & perfect it.  Email us if you are interested! Then it was time for DANCE PAHHTY!  (This is our good friend Jess & one of our photography cheerleaders)  We love her, she is always a good time!! The band, Wildfire, definitely got everyone out on the dance floor!

Mr, Mrs & Miss Drew go apple picking | Westward Orchards Harvard MA

The Correia Family (that’s us!) went apple picking a few weeks ago.  We decided to go to the Westward Orchards not to far from us in Harvard MA.  I must admit that our trip was also to scout the location for a family session & for the Lowell Photo Shootout at the end of this month.  We had been wanting to go apple picking, but weren’t sure if we’d be able to do it.  Luckily Drew had a Friday off so we were able to go on a weekday when it wasn’t super busy!

It was a warm sunny day in October and we headed up the hill to pick some apples.  We had to walk a little bit into the orchard because the trees closest to the farmhouse didn’t have any apples on them.  For a minute I was worried that we were in the wrong orchard and weren’t going to find any apples.  Luckily we finally came across some that were low enough that Prue could pick them herself.  Then it was picking & eating time for Prue.  Since we went apple picking she has been crazy with eating apples.  She must have had 4 on the first day.  She kept swiping them from the dinning room table.  I suppose she could like worse snacks, I just don’t want her to only eat apples!Westward Orchard Westward Orchard Westward Orchard

Westward Orchard

YEAH! for apples that were at Prue’s height!  also YEAH! for Prue  actually listening to us! She went under the tree for a photo & looked at me (though only for a second).  You would think that Prue would be really good at standing still so we can take a photo, but that is the farthest from the truth.  I think she actually refuses to look at us when we are holding the camera!  We aren’t even the crazy type that try to put her into silly sets & poses, we just want her to look at us & she refuses to do that most of the time.

She didn’t understand that Drew needed to see in order to pick apples.  Why would she care though, she already had an apple in her hard!

I played around with editing these so they are a little more vintage & warm looking.  I thought it would be fun to do something a little different.  Let me know what you think of them.

We did some headshots for our good friend Jess, who is going to be getting back into acting after taking a short hiatus. She is an amazing, gorgeous & funny person who we are so happy to have in our lives. She lives in NYC so we don’t get to see her as often as we’d like, but when we do get to hang out you know it’s going to be a good time for sure.

I’ll write more when I do a full post with her images, I just thought these would make a great before & after showing how we tweak our images in post production. Your goal is to always start with an amazing image, but even great images can benefit from a little tweaking. We use Lightroom to do most of our editing & then when needed we will take an image into Photoshop.

Before

After

What I did: I brightened the image just a tad, warmed it up, cleaned up a few minor blemishes, did a minor tweak to her eyes (brightening them a bit), did a little skin smoothing & added the lipgloss that wore off during the shoot.  As you can see both images look like Jess, we don’t tweak them in a way so they look fake we just give them a little oomph.

For the photographers out there: If you haven’t tried out lightroom yet, we strongly suggest you do. It makes managing & editing a large number of images much easier. I won’t get on my soapbox and start preaching, just trust me, check it out if you haven’t already!

My Aunt Kathy is the program director for Suitability.  SuitAbility is a program of Community Teamwork, Inc. and was created to enhance the marketability of economically challenged women. SuitAbility provides support services, appropriate interview/work clothing, at no cost, to low income women (this info was copied from there website).  They just had a benefit Drag show.  My cousin Jason (my Aunt’s son) use to perform Drag in Provincetown several years ago, now he is a hair, makeup & wig designer who works on films, TV & theater in NYC (can you say AMAZING job!?).  Jason was able to put together the benefit with the help of some of his friends who are also Drag performers.  They were all kind enough to volunteer their time & come to Lowell for the event.

The show was a “Night at the Movies” themed show. Starring Margeaux Powell (my cousin Jason), Felicity Layne, Thirsty Burlington, Billie Jean, and Tisch DeWilliams with a special appearance by Raquel Blake!  The show was amazing, it was difficult to focus on photographing the event.  There were many times I wanted to put the camera down & dance, but I managed to capture some of the amazing moments of the show.

Billie Jean performing.  Can  you even handle the drama of red fabric draped around the hat.  When she came on stage my friends & I died over it.  Billie Jean performs at the Crown & Anchor & is a stylist & make-up artist at Snip Salon in Provincetown.

Felicity Layne performing.  You can also find Felicity Layne performing at the Crown & Anchor in Provincetown regularly with Billie Jean & Tisch DeWilliams.

Tisch DeWilliams performing.  She also performs at the Crown & Anchor in Provincetown in Illusions (with Billie Jean & Felicity).  Tisch is also the co-owner of Miss Gay Massachusetts US of A along with Billie Jean.Thirsty Burlington did an amazing Cher (something that she is well known for!) Thirsty also performs at the Crown & Anchor in Provincetown & is the Miss Gay Massachusetts for 2010!

Margeaux Powell doing her thing dancing up a storm on the stage!  You’d never have known during the performances that my cousin Jason was super sick.  Margeaux didn’t hold back at all!

I love this sequence of Felicity spinning!

Thirsty Burlington as Edie Beale from Grey Gardens!  Loved this, she was so funny and spot on from the documentary.

The photo on the right was the moment right after Felicity accidentally kicked her show off into the audience.  Luckily no one was hit by the shoe.  Felicity worked it out & was able to finish the performance wearing only one shoe.

Raquel Blake who is more local (from the Lowell area) was a special guest & did a Celine Dion performance that was great!

Billie Jean did some amazing posing during this Annie Lennox performance.  I loved the drama of it!

A little MJ is always a great way to get the party started!

Loved this wig!

Obviously some Whitney (can’t you tell because of the towel to wipe the excessive amount of perspiration off of Whitney’s forehead!?)  Another great performance.

A little sister act thrown in to the mix.

My twister Mel & I with our long lost triplet :)

It was an amazing evening, lots of laughs & lots of fun.  If you have a chance to see any of these ladies perform you definitely should.  They were fabulous & all volunteered their time for a wonderful cause.  On a side note, my cousin Jason needs some more props.  He was super sick drove in from NYC was on tons of medicine & was performing, dancing like crazy & emceeing the entire night.  I don’t know how he did it, I am sure he slept for 24 hours straight after the show(though if I know my cousin, I also know that is definitely not the case!)

Maya just turned one!  I did a mini shoot with Maya & her sister (I am sure you recognize her from this post) because I was designing custom photo invitations for Maya’s first birthday.  Her mom contacted me a few weeks before her birthday asking if we did cookies with photos on them, we weren’t able to help her, but Margie (from Delicious Designs by Margie) was able to make them for Leigh.  I quickly cropped & prepared the files & sent them over to Margie.

Margie made a few extra so she could send us one.  We’ve been a little busy here, so it took me sometime, but I was finally able to take some photos of the cookie & then try it.  I can say that even though it wasn’t right from Margie by the time I sampled it, the cookie was still yummy & looked super.  I love the purple sugar around the edge of the photo, who doesn’t love a little sparkle.

Margie is located in Winchester & even if you aren’t looking for photo cookies check her out anyway.  Her iced sugar cookies are super cute & would also make great party favors!
